When you get amazing light and clouds, a wide angle lens is going to be one of the best lenses to use to show off the grand scene. But when the skies are boring, a wide angle lens isn't going to give you a portfolio worthy shot. This is when the telephoto lens comes in. A telephoto lens enables you to zoom in and focus on a very small part of the scene, which oftentimes can result in some pretty amazing images.
