I have decided that until the end of 2024, I am going to help people build up a wine cellar by providing a cellar selection each month. Each bottle I will choose will be under $40 and will have aging potential I have done this for many friends and clients and with the multitude of misinformation (even to do with wines!), I am going to give you my views on wine. If you think of any friends who would benefit from these recommendations, please ask them to subcribe to my Youtube Channel! I think if you follow my recommendations for the next 2.5-3 years, you will build a pretty nice cellar of wines. Many of my friends and clients have thanked me for wines I recommended in the past that I don’t even remember or I have drunk all of my bottles!
Caveat: this is for people who are interested in building up a long term cellar of wines that they can drink for many years. These selections may need some aging so you will need patience and although some of them will drink nicely right away, many will need the 2.5- 3 years of ageing or longer. But if you follow my recommendations, you will build a very well balanced, nice drinking cellar for not that much money.
My value cellar wine pick for March 2024 is the Dominio de Tares 2020 Bierzo Baltos. This winery was established in 2002 in the El Bierzo region in Spain. They specialize in making wines with the local grape varietals and this wine is made with the Mencia grape, which is know for it spicy and floral notes. The grapes used to produce this wine are hand harvested bunch by bunch, fermented with its natural wild yeasts, aged for 4-6 months in French oak and then an additional 12 months in bottle before release. You will get a medium bodied, expressive wine with black cherry, blackberry, balsamic vinegar, orange peel and mineral elements. It has a 91 pt Wine Spectator rating and will drink until 2028. Reduced this month at BC Liquor Stores from $32.99 to $28.99. I would recommend picking up 4 bottles for your cellar.
