Japan Trip: Philosopher's Path walk under beautiful cherry blossoms, Kyoto 049
The Philosopher's Path, Tetsugaku no michi in Japanese, is a pleasant stone path running through the northern part of Kyoto's Higashiyama district. The path follows a canal which is lined with hundreds of cherry trees. Usually in early April these trees explode with color, making this area one of the city's most popular hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spots.
About two kilometers long, the path starts around Ginkakuji, or Silver Pavilion and ends near Nanzenji. The path was named after what is said about Nishida Kitaro, one of Japan's most famous philosophers, who practiced meditation while walking this road every day on his way to Kyoto University.
