Thousands of people demonstrated, Wednesday, July 22, in Athens and other Greek cities over plans to make COVID-19 vaccinations mandatory for all health workers.
Police responded with tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said last week that all people working in retirement homes must be vaccinated by mid-August or they would be put on sick leave.
Vaccination for health workers in both public and private sectors will become mandatory on September 1.
Just over 40% of the Greek population has been vaccinated so far, but the government hopes to bump up those numbers as they face the spread of the Delta variant. (AFP)
