The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, more commonly known as NASA, is famous for its scientific discoveries in outer space. Their research has always provided a great help towards adding value and innovations to enhance daily life and educate and impart knowledge to those with curious minds.
When we hear NASA, we can’t help but automatically pair the word up with space. I won’t blame you for thinking so; this agency has made countless discoveries in space, so it wouldn’t be impossible not to intertwine the two. But did you know that NASA has recently decided to impart on missions to study and make discoveries under the Earth? If so, what has NASA uncovered that takes scientific research to a new level? Antarctica is mainly a polar desert, a cold, remote area in the southern hemisphere. It is the world’s 5th largest continent being 40% larger than Europe and having an area of about 14 million square kilometers. There are no countries in this continent despite the seven nations claiming parts of it. There aren’t any countries in this vast land of ice because Antarctica does not have a native population. This continent’s frigid and dry climate prevents permanent human habitation. However, this does not stop traveling scientists from trying to explore this freezing ice land. To elaborate on just how much ice this continent holds, Antarctica is covered by the Antarctic ice sheet, the largest single mass of ice on earth. This ice sheet is one of Earth’s two polar ice caps and covers 98% of Antarctica.
