Brazilian Emerald Miners: The Garimpeiro by GIA. Learn about the unique conditions faced when mining for emeralds in Garimpeiro, Brazil, according to mine owner Sergio Martins. When mining emeralds, the people of Garimpeiro work under a cooperative of emerald miners, which consists of around 140 people. With the help of financiers, an agreement is signed to split production and profits, allowing the Garimpeiro people to work at the emerald mine for several years.
