A conversation between H.E. Ailish Campbell, Ambassador of Canada to the European Union and H.E. Melita Gabrič, Ambassador of the European Union to Canada, on June 1, 2022. The event is moderated by Achim Hurrelmann, Professor of Political Science and Co-Director of the Centre for European Studies at Carleton University.

In 2022, Canada and the European Union celebrate the fifth anniversary of the provisional application of the Canada-EU Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The two agreements provide a strong foundation for Canada-EU cooperation on a multitude of issues, ranging from global security to ensuring the stability of supply chains.

The last two years have been tumultuous, and have brought significant additional challenges that Canada and the EU must navigate, including addressing the war in Ukraine. Ambassadors Campbell and Gabrič reflect on ways to advance the Canada-EU strategic partnership going forward, in an increasingly uncertain international environment.
