The deployment of explosive detection dogs started already a century ago.
Even with strong technological advances to detect explosives threats, explosive detection dogs continue to play an important role due to the speed and flexibility they can deliver in dynamic environments.

Early March 2022, representatives of the EU Commission and US State Department met as part of the EU - U.S. Explosive Detection Dog Working Group. This transatlantic Working Group brings together experts from EU Member States, EU Commission, U.S. Government and Agencies, along with the scientific community, to exchange best practices as well as evolving how detection dogs may improve the security in public spaces.
