Prime Minister Justin Trudeau speaks with reporters in London, where he is attending the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II. He is joined at the news conference by Ralph Goodale, Canada’s high commissioner to the United Kingdom. The prime minister is also meeting with British Prime Minister Liz Truss and other world leaders ahead of the funeral. Canada's delegation to the Queen's funeral includes Governor General Mary Simon, several former prime ministers and governors general as well as Indigenous leaders. The Queen died on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96, ending a 70-year reign as the Canadian head of state. Responding to questions from reporters, Trudeau comments on issues including Canada's connection to the monarchy, Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, and the COVID-19 situation in Canada.
