Why did Our Lady Warn us of Divine Punishment?
Hello everyone, and welcome to America Needs Fatima’s 3-minute Meditation. In this short video segment, you and I will take about three minutes out of our day to meditate on a special piece of Catholic wisdom. In today’s meditation we contemplate the words of Luiz Sergio Solimeo.
Saint Thomas Aquinas teaches us that divine justice and mercy are intrinsically linked, and both are attributes of God. They are not conflicting forces but rather complementary aspects of His infinite love for humanity. Mary, in her role as our loving Mother, comes to us not only with the message of divine mercy but also with the solemn warning of divine justice. Her maternal concern for our well-being compels her to implore us to turn away from sin and reconcile with God, knowing that disobedience leads to spiritual peril.
“For all that we have seen about the motherly kindness of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, many of you may wonder how that sweetness is consistent with the announcement of a punishment for humanity… Since the love of God in the Blessed Mother is most perfect, it cannot be limited to divine mercy but must also extend to God’s justice, as both are attributes of God. And since in God everything is perfect, Divine justice is as worthy of adoration as all His other attributes. Moreover, as Saint Thomas Aquinas teaches, Divine justice and mercy are so linked together that one does not exist without the other …The sublime love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary for God’s mercy and justice makes us understand why she herself maternally came to warn of the divine punishment if men did not stop offending God.”
As we reflect on the Immaculate Heart of Mary, let us embrace the depth of her love—a love that encompasses both mercy and justice. May her example inspire us to seek reconciliation with God, trusting in His infinite love and mercy, while also recognizing the reality of divine justice. Thank you for joining me today. I hope today's meditation helped you to grow in your faith. Talk to you all again soon.
