Honey has been used since ancient times to treat internal and external conditions. In the late 19th century, research began proving what tradition knew all along: honey speeds healing and has impressive antibacterial qualities. It's important to note that only raw honey is effective because honey that been pasteurized is devoid of many beneficial properties.
Manuka Honey
Manuka honey is particularly healing. It's produced by honey bees foraging on the manuka or tea tree throughout Australia and New Zealand. In it's raw, unpasteurized form it contains potent antibacterial properties.
Manuka Honey and MRSA
Manuka honey has an extra compound not found in other honeys which makes it more powerful. Basically, in manuka honey, the powers of tea tree combine with the amazing antibacterial components of honey to create a super-honey of sorts. Medical-grade manuka honey is has even been proven to effectively stop the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria that cause life-threatening infections to humans.
In this study ([ Ссылка ]), a hospital used honey dressings successfully in their wound care clinic for over a year with great results. The article states,
The battle against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) wound infection is becoming more difficult as drug resistance is widespread and the incidence of MRSA in the community increases. Manuka honey dressing has long been available as a non-antibiotic treatment in the management of chronic wound infections.
Manuka honey has been used medically to treat:
abscesses
chronic leg ulcers
diabetic foot ulcers
pressure sores
wound infections
1st and 2nd degree burns
donor sites
traumatic and surgical wounds
Manuka honey has also been used as an effective treatment against stomach ulcers, gastritis, and other digestive problems. It's also effective against colds, sore throats, dermatitis, acne, conjunctivitis, sinusitis, acid reflux and heartburn. Some studies have even shown that honey is good for patients with diabetes.
Medihoney - My Experience
I've personally used Medihoney with excellent results on unstitched second degree perineal tearing and an open wound. For minor illnesses, like a sore throat, I'll sometimes take a spoonful of raw honey straight from the jar. But for cases where antibiotic creams are generally used, I prefer this medical-grade honey. I always keep both raw honey and the following medical-grade honey products on hand.
