Generally, as you guys know accommodation/rent is a very big deal overseas, and if you are not careful you will just be living to pay rent. In this video, I would be describing cheaper rent or accommodation options in the western world but will be using New Zealand as a typical example.
1) Homestay: This is a type of accommodation arrangement where the host provides a finished room with the bills, feeding all included in the agreed weekly rent. The upside of this type of accommodation is it can be instrumental in the settling of an immigrate through first-hand information from the host, furnished apartment, meals prepared, etc. The negative side of it is you might lose time gisting with your host who often needs company and the food served might not meet up to your nutritional need.
2)Flating: This is a type of accommodation where some get a house and sublet a room to another. It has got the advantage of offering first-hand information if you are floating with a local, able to cook, and involved in the decision-making in the flat. The downside is that it might be exploitatory as you are not part of the house contract and you should be willing to accommodate and tolerate your flatmates.
3)School hostel: This is living in the school-provided accommodation. They are often cheaper, cutting transportation costs to the school and keeping you up to date with happenings in the school. It might negatively affect the person's social life.
4) Living in the car: You can temporally get a car and live in it while you sort yourself out.
