Miraitowa and Someity mascots visit Paris #2 (HD)
Tokyo 2020 mascots Miraitowa and Someity are visiting six European cities on a promotional tour for the upcoming Olympics that will tie in the event’s ‘Make the Beat’ social media campaign.
The mascots will visit former Olympics host cities Barcelona, Paris, Athens and London, as well as Lausanne, the home of the International Olympic Committee, and Bonn, the home of the International Paralympic Committee.
An event on Wednesday to mark their departure took place at Tokyo’s Haneda airport. It featured the mascots teaching travellers a Make the Beat clapping routine, supported by a video message from Howie Dorough, a singer from veteran pop act Backstreet Boys.
The mascots will take part in events and promotions at each stop on the tour, to raise awareness of Tokyo 2020 and the Make the Beat campaign. Make the Beat invites people around the world to post videos of themselves on social media dancing to the ‘Tokyo 2020beat’, a short, melodic rhythm composed for the Games, using the hashtag #2020beat. The tune was created using sound samples reflecting the themes of ‘sports’, ‘Japanese culture’, ‘daily lives’ and ‘nature’, and using artificial intelligence technology from Olympic Worldwide Partner Intel Corporation.
Tokyo 2020 organisers will be storing and compiling Make the Beat videos from social media platforms TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter from March onwards, and broadcasting them at Olympics venues during the Games.
The full Make the Beat European tour schedule is as follows:
• Barcelona – Feb 25-Mar 1
• Paris – Mar 2-8
• Bonn – Mar 9-15
• Athens – Mar 16-20
• London – Mar 21-26
• Lausanne – Mar 27-31
