Been tested out some 223 Subsonic loads and finally settled on a very accurate 55gr Nosler running at 1060fps. 1/4" groups at 50m.
The plan was to get in close on a lone boar and put one in his ear. They're incredible quiet and should be lethal.
Found a boar and started the stalk in from 400m out, tripod in hand, rifle slung over my shoulder and scanning as I walked with my Pulsar Helion thermal monocular.
Stopping regularly to check the distance to my intended target I slowly closed to 60m. Set the tripod up and felt a slight whisper of air on the back of my neck.
Trying to quietly click the safety off the boar scented me and slowly started to trot off. What the hell I thought, 1 subsonic in the spout and a magazine full of supersonics I decided to send it. With a click from the firing pin the only other noise that could be heard was the slap of that little 55gr Nosler making perfect contact.
He didn't go 20.
Although I would have much preferred putting one in his brain, I has gob smacked at just how effective this quiet little projectile performed. Job done and nothing in the area was any the wiser.
