Menachem Katz was born in 1925 in Berezhany, Poland. In October 1942, the town's ghetto was established. His family hid and avoided the deportation to Bełżec death camp on Yom Kippur 1942. When the ghetto was liquidated, he, his mother and young sister survived due to the actions of Righteous Among the Nations.
