Welcome this GalcoTV tech tip where we are going to dive into International Efficiency Standards… commonly referred to as IE…and explain what they are…how they came to be…and how they may affect your industrial systems. In 1997, the U.S. was the first country to establish minimum efficiency standards or MEPS for electric motors. However, these regulations only applied to motors manufactured in or sold to U.S. markets and many countries around the world were operating under their own efficiency rating systems for electric motors. This created a need for a standardized efficiency system for electric motors across the globe and with that need, the International Electrotechnical Commission was born.
