Victoria Station walk plus buying an Oyster Card or train ticket.
Oyster Cards can seem scary for London visitors, so I find you ticket machines and ticket counters in Victoria Station to get an idea of how and where to buy an Oyster Card or a simple paper ticket for your visit to London. To take a London bus you will need an Oyster Card which covers buses and trains, but if you are only taking the trains or underground, you can use a paper ticket.
Victoria Station, barely a 10-minute walk from Buckingham Palace and also the station for trains to Gatwick Airport, started out as the gateway to the south from north of the River Thames. It was such an instant success in the 1860s that it had to be extended within a decade. Here we take a nosey around the platforms and shops, check out the food offerings in Victoria Place and get a view of Victoria Coach Station. Buckingham Palace Road is the most direct walking route to Buckingham Palace from Victoria Station, so I show you where it is, but no walking there this time – check out my Victoria to Buckingham Palace walk video for that. Instead, I end the video with my search for a Number 11 bus, which is one of the most iconic bus routes through London, and which will be the subject matter of the next video.
