We're back for another Night Sky LIVE! The stream begins at 8:30pm on May 15th as we tour the surface of the pre-eclipse Full Moon through our telescopes. Then, at 9:32pm EDT, the eclipse begins and we hope to provide full coverage of this event. Unlike November's partial eclipse, you won't have to stay up too late to see the Blood Moon and this time it will fully enter the Earth's shadow. The start times (in EDT) for each phase of the eclipse follow:
9:32PM - Penumbral Eclipse Begins
10:27PM - Partial Eclipse Begins
11:29PM - Total Eclipse Begins
12:11AM - Maximum Eclipse
12:53AM - Total Eclipse Ends
1:55AM - Partial Eclipse Ends
2:50AM - Penumbral Eclipse Ends
When the penumbral eclipse begins, the Moon will be rising in the East, 12.5º above the horizon at our site, which means Kopernik Observatory can cover the entire event. The total eclipse will last well over an hour, so be sure to see the Blood Moon for yourself where you live. Our livestream astronomer, Jeremy Cartie, will be available throughout the stream to chat and answer questions. Don't miss this exciting astronomical event!
