Originally recorded in the 1937 movie "The Cantor's Son" by Moishe Oysher and Florence Weiss, this song was an early mashup of Eastern European Chassidic nigunim (wordless prayer melodies) via a version of the Passover song "Chad Gadya" (One Kid) with contemporary African-American scat-singing, as exemplified by Louis Armstrong. This arrangement is by Maxwell Street's clarinetist, Shelley Yoelin.
This concert was specially arranged by Sheridan Studios during the Covid-19 Pandemic, when all of Maxwell Street Klezmer Band's performances were cancelled. In a small, socially-distanced concert, Maxwell Street played a livestream show in August 2020.
