The endless fascination with the everyday world around him inspired George Hendrik Breitner to become the visual reporter of the turbulent life of the inner city and the people who lived there. Expert Marjolein Regout discusses ‘Three girls in the snow’, in which Breitner used colourful, wildly smeared paint surfaces to portray the coarse features of a group of three women.
This work and others will be up for auction during our Old Masters, Nineteenth Century & Early Modern Art auction on May 18th.
