James Taylor sings "Up on the Roof" written by Carole King for the PBS broadcast, "In Performance at the White House". Legendary singer and songwriter Carole King is honored at the White House as the recipient of the Gershwin Prize for Popular song. Ms. King is the first woman to receive the award, which was created by the Library of Congress to recognize "the profound and positive effect of popular music on the world’s culture".
To mark the achievement, the President and First Lady hosted a concert in the East Room where Carole King performed some of her hits alongside legendary recording artists including James Taylor, Billy Joel and Gloria Estefan.
Saxophonist Crispin Cioe is the show's Music Director and performs with the band. The show airs nationally on PBS.
