In today’s video you will discover a pretty crazy mechanical feat coming from the Purnell brand with nothing less than a very spectacular double gyrotourbillon developed by talented watchmaker Eric Coudray and the team of Tech Group. This extremely intricate mechanism is referred to as a Spherion and uses three cages inside each other with the goal of neutralising the effect of gravity and therefore increase the chronometry of the timepiece. One of the particularity of this Spherion is that the cases rotate on themselves very fast and this is achieved with the use of a special escapement called Potter.

But one of the downside is that it requires quite a lot of energy, especially when you have two of these regulating organs in the same movement, and Purnell had therefore to put six barrels in order to obtain an adequate power reserve.
