✈️ We had planned to get the sleeper train between Mumbai and Udaipur, but when we couldn’t get a bed each confirmed (make sure you book these sleeper trains months in advance!) we decided to fly instead.
Having never head of Vistara before, I looked them up and the 3 reviews shown are genuinely the first 3 reviews that came up 😂
However, I’ve always been a true believer in the fact that people will always complain louder than people who compliment and I mean, I fly Ryanair and Wizz Air all the time. How bad could it actually be?! 🤷♀️
Well, we decided to try it out and here’s what happened!! 🕵️♀️

1️⃣ Why didn’t my bag get loaded onto plane? 🤔
Whilst we were told it definitely would be, it ultimately wasn’t loaded because of the power bank issue. In fact, the staff on arrival made out that there was zero attempt to load it 😭 Which I would have preferred to know previously because it was only a backpack and so I could have easily taken it on board, paying an extra charge if I needed to.
So yes, it was my initial mistake but then I think they just told us what we wanted to hear so we didn’t have the opportunity to make any arrangements to fix it!
2️⃣ Did I hold the plane up due to this issue?
No - people were still boarding after us and since we know they didn’t even try to load the bags, it was not the reason we sat on the tarmac for a while 😂
3️⃣ What’s an AirTag and why wasn’t it uploading?
I leave an Apple AirTag in any of my checked in luggage so that I can track its location. However, this only updates when it’s around other Apple users and so as it hadn’t moved in a while, the location hadn’t updated.
Whilst that doesn’t feel helpful, it does at least give you the heads up that something has probably gone awry! It was also very useful after!
4️⃣ Who did you talk to when you realised the bag wasn’t there?
There was someone at the baggage claim there to help - I have a feeling this happens a lot 😂 We quickly confirmed what bag they were waiting for (she’d been whatsapped the photo of it) and she said that she was going to try and get it on a flight that evening but we’d have to come back to the airport to pick it up.
Now, I know that when an airline loses your bags they’re supposed to deliver it to your hotel but she said because it wasn’t loaded because of the power bank, they wouldn’t do this. Whilst I thought this was a tad unfair since they said the bag was being loaded, I quickly realised it was simply a money thing and asked if I could pay to use their service which I could! It was only 500 INR (£4.92) which was actually cheaper than a one way taxi.
We swapped WhatsApp contacts (not having an Indian number was a bit of an issue initially as no one could call us) and kept in contact throughout the day. She was really helpful!
I do think it helped that James and I were nice, calm and fully understanding of the situation - she seemed unhelpful at first but I think it’s because she just get so much shit off customers in that job.
5️⃣ How did you get your bag back?
Our contact let us know that it was on the plane and that it had arrived (great customer service) and at that point my AirTag started updating again which was really helpful for us to track the driver.
Also helpful was our hostel who we gave the driver’s number to, so they rang him and directed him to us.
6️⃣ Was it stressful?
No! I’m laughing in the video because I think it’s hilarious that I’ve just given them 5 stars, I also assume that it’s happened to me because of my mistake but also all my valuables are in my carry on back pack and I even packed 2 days worth of clothes in there as well. It’s almost like I knew something was gonna go wrong 😂
Also, I have travel insurance and so I knew the worst of the worst, I’d have to claim back the value of what had been lost through them.
7️⃣ Final thoughts on Vistara?
I actually feel bad because other than this, they were really good. However, I think a 3 star final review is fair given that we did land a little late and they didn’t attempt to load the bag. But the latter shouldn’t happen to most and so I’d definitely give a big thumbs up to flying with them 👍
