Srinagar: An 18-year-old youth was killed and over 25 others sustained injuries during intense clashes between government forces and protesters near encounter site at Kundalan village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.
Two militants were killed during the encounter and in the initial cross firing two soldiers including an officer suffered injuries, sources said.
“Two militants were killed in Shopian Kundalan operation,” Defence PRO Col Rajesh Kalia told Kashmir Reader.
Local sources said that Tamsheel Ahmad Khan (18) son of Khursheed Ahmad Khan, a resident of Vehil, Kachdora area of Shopian sustained a critical bullet wound in his head after forces fired upon protesters near gunfight site.
Tamsheel was shifted to District Hospital Shopian where from he along with five injured were referred to different hospitals of Srinagar.
Tamsheel was taken to SMHS hospital here where doctors declared him dead on arrival, sources said.
Over 25 protesters were injured with bullets and pellets during clashes near the encounter site which erupted soon after the gunfight started.
The gunfight started after the joint team of Army, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
Locals said that forces blasted two residential houses in operation.
