Environment Officer Rob Argent shares his experience of the Buncefield explosion on 11th December 2005. He was one of the first people on the scene and recalls the experience of being on the front line of such a significant environmental disaster.
The Buncefield blast was the one of the largest explosions and fires in Europe since the end of World War II. Pictures of the fire and smoke plume from the blazing site in Hemel Hempstead, were beamed around the world. More than 40 people were injured, businesses and homes were damaged - some irreparably - and 2000 people were evacuated.
