Late Sri B N Gopalkrishna Rao ( famously known as BNGK), is son of late Sri B Narsappayya (who was a disciple of famous Kannada Poet Panja Mangesha Rao) and late Smt B Parvathi ( who was a teacher in Vidyabhodhini school, Kadri, mangalore- also known as Kadri School). He was born on 21.6.1938 in Kadri, Mangalore. The beauty of Kannada literature and poetry was inspired to his young mind by his great teachers like Kadri Srinivasa Rao, Shankara Narayana Shastry & Vishnu Bhat. Later as a Deputy Secretary of Government College Kannada association he had the opportunity of hosting and presenting many Kannada programs in front of great Kannada stalwarts like Rastrakavi Da. Ra. Bendre & Kaiyaara Kinnanna Rai. Working for Indian postal Department later he had the opportunity to serve in places like Sagara, Shivamogga, Kargal, Linganamakki, Iduvani, Joga, Kadur, Birur etc when amidst the beautiful nature he came in contact with many great Kannada poets and literates like Na D’Souza, Hassan, Na Udupa, Mavinakere Ranganatha & Nirupama Niranjana, Danthi, Beechi etc .He also was actively involved in Kannada Natakas (dramas) like Marichana Bhandugalu, Chandamarutha, Panchami by Krishna Swamy, Tuglak by Girish Karnad, Apoornaru by Sethuram ( in this acted along with his then school going daughter Roopalaxmi Rao), Jwalanam by C L Jose translated to Kannada by his friend Radhakrishna, Gulaamana Swathantrya, Anji, Yatre, Sayo aata, Lola Lotte, Gaggayyana Gadibidi, Veera Pandya, Miss Lankini, Bahaddur Gandu,Abhivyaktha,Rani Abbkka,Satya Harischandra, Belavadi Mallamma, Belli Bayalu, Kaddavane Kalla, Chakravyuha , Divya Darshana etc., and many more street plays. During these days he also wrote many poems which as a collections of poems was released on 22.11.2008 at Mangalore Town hall during Bharathanatya Rangapravesha of his own granddaughter Kum B H Tanvi Rao ( his Son’s daughter) through a book titled Nallege by President and Chancellor of Niitte Education Trust Sri N.Vinay Hegde.
Here one of such poem titled “ Nallege” which Sri B N Gopalkrishna Rao had written in an Inland post letter from Kadur to his pregnant worried wife Leelavathi Rao staying in Kadri during 1967 , worried since she did not receive any letters from her husband for a long time during her first pregnancy. Obviously after receiving this poem Leelavathi had her tears of joy.
Now we have attempted to bring back and relive that moment by making this beautiful poem, this video album (Dhrishya Kavya). Many of our family members and relativesand friends joined in our efforts in making this video (all their names shown in credits in this video), with a great artist Sri Sushanth Devadiga supporting us in the role of Late Sri B N Gopalkrishna Rao here. Direction & Music by famous Director Sharath Bilinele, great play back singer Santosh Venky singing the poem, with dance choreography by BNGK’s granddaughter Tanvi Rao, cinematography by Unknown Creations Dharmastala and produced by BNGK’s daughter Smt Roopalaxmi H Rao, attempts an effort to recreate that day with support and blessings from all family members who have participated in this video. We are thankful to everyone and looking forward for all your support for our humble effort.
