Medical Physics is one of the best kept secret fields within Physics and notably is the most gender equitable sub-specialty in Physics with nearly 37% of Medical Physics graduate students identifying as women. The reasons for this increase in gender equity compared to other STEM fields is not well understood or studied. Also, there is growing evidence within the American Association of Medical Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), the largest organization of medical physicists, that the Medical Physics graduate programs also maintain levels of nearly 10-11% underrepresented students as well. This talk will explain what the field of Medical Physics encompasses and explain the growing demographic data that shows how inclusive the field is becoming. Also, by the end of the talk, listeners will have a firm understanding on how to join the field.
