Born on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., John R. Miller grew up in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, where the mountains meet Interstate 81. A co-founding member and songwriter for well-traveled bands The Fox Hunt and Prison Book Club, and hauling around a song bank of lyrically-driven country blues & folk, he has performed across the US, Canada, Ireland, the UK, Japan, and Europe. He has made several appearances on NPR’s Mountain Stage with Larry Groce, and has been a featured songwriter and performer on the Travelin' Appalachians Revue. His song “Coming Down” was covered by Kentucky artist Tyler Childers on his album Live at Red Barn I & II. He quietly self-released a solo album Service Engine in 2014, and his most recent full-band effort, The Trouble You Follow, was released in 2018 via Lexington, Kentucky’s Emperor Records
