【Pls look at the top comment first】This band Airkraft could have been one of the symbols among the past memorable hair metal years like many other worldwide famous names and also they could have been remembered by fans all over the world. But in reality, their quality albums are somewhat less known, even hard to get during a certain period. The background of Airkraft starts back to 1982 when the founders were senior high school buddies. In 1982, Airkraft released their first single "Alien Probe" and won great popularity among young college students and terrific reputation by radio stations and went through a long time in music tour. They had a successful beginning, so Airkraft became one of the most welcome names among hard rock bands during 1980s.
Personally, Airkraft is one of the best who perfectly combined American hard rock tunes with classic aor styles. That is to say, they are acceptable and welcome by both hard rock fans and pure aor lovers. From the early albums, they played pure hard rock stuffs but somewhat differed from many other bands because of the big keys/synthesizers arranged as their music features. This album "In The Red" is the perfect combination of hard rock with aor, the fourth release of Airkraft. Maybe it is the one which was comparitively the most well-known and got wider dissemination as well as promotion by comparision to their former records. When the opening track kicks in from this album, that is one of the most brilliant aor masterpieces, the super single "Someday You'll Come Running" from FM as its original version, making this album "In The Red" stand out to hit the heart. Another version by Mark Free might be well-known by most aor fans, but Airkraft's performance should never be overlooked, which was recorded prior to Mark Free's with their impressive newly-arranged solos.
This song "Tonight" is the most underrated one from the album. Simple melodies as it had, this love theme brings a sense of nostalgia that truly sounds pleasing. The singer also the co-founder of Airkraft, Dave Saindon's performance reminds me of some classic and familiar names among 1980s aor. The most impressive names which I associate with and hit me in my head are Da Vinci (NOR), Surgin and Prophet (the same vocalist from Surgin), just from my personal view. Different views from anyone else just prove that the works from Airkraft sound as classic as fans' unforgettable memories. By the way, this intro by strong beat reminds me of "Hungry Eyes" from Eric Carmen.
Other tracks I recommend are melodic rock gems "Heaven" and "Say Goodbye"; power ballad "Somewhere"; hard rock tunes "Love Has No Mercy" and "Feed Me To The Fire", including almost every track from the album. To find your favourite and catch their perfect choruses, I trust "In The Red" will never be disappointing as your best choice and good taste in music. With catchy tunes and hooks in each track from this album, "In The Red" is a masterpiece with no arguments. Because it is almost out of print, this one is one of the most precious for album collectors and true love from fans no matter what the type it is, cassette, vinyl or CD if it is available. Moreover, any albums from Airkraft should be considered as invaluable pearls.
It's a pity that the success with “In The Red” just lasted less than a year. They were dropped from their label just in time for grunge to arrive and push melodic rock back underground. Even though the flooding grunge changed music world during those broken years, these classic sounds will be remembered and become prosperous by support and true love from fans as well as dedication from AORers, including you and me.
