January 2023 is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month. There are an estimated 25 million adults and children subject to human trafficking around the world, including in Chicago. Last year, the Salvation Army’s STOP-IT Program in Chicago received 385 calls to its 24-hour hotline and managed more than 80 victim cases. The Salvation Army STOP-IT Program is a lead agency on the Cook County Human Trafficking Task Force, and helps survivors heal and start a new life after leaving a trafficking situation. Services provided include support such as housing resources, food, transportation, medical and legal services. Rachel Ostergaard, the director of the Salvation Army's STOP-IT program appeared on the WGN News at 4pm to talk about the problem.
