With India now a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Russia may soon be calling more of the shots.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (sco) welcomed two new members during its annual summit on June 8-9: India and Pakistan. The sco is a Eurasian political, economic and security bloc that was created about two decades ago.

These two additions have caused a substantial increase in the group’s population reach and nuclear power. Nearly one half of the world’s global population now lives within the sco’s bounds.

In the past, China had dominated this organization as its militaristic and economic powerhouse. However, this central position is now likely to swing in Russia’s direction, making this addition geopolitically significant.

Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has said before that the coming kings of the east would be dominated by Russia, not China.

China and India have had a rough relationship. Border disputes and India’s hindrance of China’s One Belt, One Road initiative has made cooperation difficult.

On the other hand, Russia and India have long had a robust relationship, especially in the area of military. Russia is India’s primary military partner and its number one arms supplier. With India’s entrance into the sco, Russia and India are poised to overcome the greatest obstacle to their bilateral trade: connectivity.

With plans to expand and improve various trade routes, including the International North-South Transport Corridor, these connectivity issues are diminishing.
