ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
Franz Kafka’s emotions and the empathy I felt for his constant search of the truth. Kafka’s look on the world is, in my opinion, a valuable method for knowing the world.
Assuming that during a short life span I could only choose one work from all Kafka’s literature, I think I would choose “A Country Doctor”, which tightly gathers many Kafkaesque elements. Standstills with no reason, a family and a son, some enigmatic villagers, a wound; all these Kafkaesque elements coupled with cinematic elements like an erotic love triangle, a boys’ choir, and a fast paced change of scenes were the reason why I chose the film. And in fact, this story was also Kafka’s favorite.
When I started the production, the only explanation I could give was that Kafka was possessed, and that was my state of mind back then. However, I now believe that I was meant to make that film precisely in that moment in my life.
After Hiroshima, Ottawa is the film festival in which I have participated the most, so winning a Grand Prize here was a great honor. I think the film is difficult to understand, especially for an audience who was seeing it for the first time, so this major prize reassured me of the quality of the film. I could not be more grateful for receiving it.
