The 1980s was a golden age for TV sitcoms. Shows like Growing Pains, Night Court, and The Facts of Life dominated network television, and stars were made in bars where everybody knows your name. ‘80s sitcoms were also incredibly formulaic — the faces and places may change, but the situations that characters found themselves in always felt familiar.

Because they were such a big part of American households, the actors who starred in these shows often also felt like part of the family.
