Join me on a walk through Atchison, Kansas the birthplace of Amelia Earhart!
Also Atchison is said to be the most haunted town in the state of Kansas.
The inscription on the interesting statue at 2:50 reads as follows below:
Lessons From The Master
'William "deafy" Boular is the very human embodiment of the Kansas motto,
Ad Astra Per Aspera: "To the stars through difficulties."
A champion bricklayer - once featured in Ripley's Believe It Or Not for laying 46,000 paving bricks in less than eight hours- Boular overcame adversity to literally lay the foundation for those who came after him.
An illness at 4-years-old left him deaf & unable to speak - then at age 10, hit by a train his legs were cut off below the knee. But he did not let his difficulties define him - becoming a productive & energetic worker known for his special boots and affectionately called "Deafy" by the people of Atchison.'
'Sculpture by Aleda Haug'
