"Morning Dance" is the title of an instrumental recording by the noted smooth jazz/jazz fusion band Spyro Gyra. Songwriter and band member Jay Beckenstein plays the alto sax on this track. The track also features a tenor steel pan.
It was released as a single from the band's second studio album of the same name in 1979, "Morning Dance" became a Top 40 hit in the United States, where it remained for eight weeks. "Morning Dance" peaked at #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in July 1979 and went to #60 on the soul chart. "Morning Dance" was most successful on the U.S. adult contemporary chart, where it spent a week at #1. Although Spyro Gyra is well-known and has sold millions of albums worldwide, this single is the band's sole U.S. top 40 hit to date. In the United Kingdom, the song reached #17 on the UK Singles Chart.
