Responsible for the gas leak in Vizag, LG Polymers factory was operating without central government's environmental clearance. In a May 2019 affidavit, the owner of LG Polymers Visakhapatnam plant admitted that the company didn’t have environmental clearance. Gas leak from the South Korean chemical company’s Vizag factory led to 12 deaths on May 7. LG Polymers spokesperson, Choi Sang Kyu, said that the company followed government guidelines at the state and at the federal level and the affidavit was a pledge in compliance with the law and not an admission of any violation.
