Bir Srestho Hamidur Rahman was a valiant war hero from Bangladesh who was awarded the title of "Bir Srestho," which translates to "the most valiant hero" in English. Born on February 3, 1944, in the village of Mithamain in Kishoreganj, Bangladesh, he played a significant role in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.
During the war, Hamidur Rahman served in the Bangladesh Army's East Bengal Regiment. He displayed extraordinary courage and bravery in various battles against the Pakistani military, which sought to suppress the movement for the independence of Bangladesh. Unfortunately, Hamidur Rahman lost his life in action on December 4, 1971, during an assault on the Pakistani military in the Hilli area of Rangpur.
In recognition of his exceptional bravery and sacrifice, Bir Srestho Hamidur Rahman was posthumously awarded the highest gallantry award in Bangladesh, the Bir Srestho. This award is given to individuals who have shown extraordinary bravery and made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.
