Sax Lesson on how to use the target notes of the melody to improvise a solo and never lose the melody. I am using the same method I use to teach improvisation to my students to show how it works on playing around the melody of "Summertime".
In the demo you will hear the melody all the way through the whole solo. I am using the main melody notes as my target notes and thereby adapting my system to play an interesting solo never going outside the rules of my system and it still sounds very musical. If you have any questions, let me know. In part two, I will be explaining what I'm doing and how you can practice it in your own solos on any song that has a strong melody. It works particularly well on ballads where there is space between the notes to add embellishments.
