The final piece in 'Impresiones Intimas' is one of the only two genuinely fast numbers, although it is in fact marked 'andante' (crochet = 144). the title translates as 'gypsy' and there are many gypsy encampments on the outskirts of Spanish (Catalan, Basque) towns, which can feel like no-go areas to local people (I speak from experience). So there is a strong sense of mystery and Otherness about the Spanish gypsy, reflected not least in their musical traditions, such as flamenco.
However, this piece suggests to me the motion of travel - running, or horseriding, or perhaps a horse-drawn cart - rather than the intensity of flamenco, or dance. The middle section has a more anguished, expressive feel to it, but the sunny disposition of the outer sections dominates.
