Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof is the largest railway station in Frankfurt am Main. With around 493,000 travellers daily, it is the second busiest long-distance railway station in Germany after Hamburg Hauptbahnhof. Opened in 1888 as "Centralbahnhof Frankfurt", the terminus station is one of the 21 stations in the highest price category of DB Station&Service and belongs to the category of metropolitan stations introduced by DB Netz in 2018. Due to its central location, Deutsche Bahn AG describes it as the most important traffic hub for German train traffic.
On peak days, approximately 1170 trains pass through the terminus. With a total of 493,000 travellers and visitors per day, it was the second busiest station in Germany in 2019. In addition to the main station, Frankfurt has three other long-distance stations, Südbahnhof, Westbahnhof and Flughafen-Fernbahnhof.
In 2019, the Federal Police recorded 4,787 crimes at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, more than at any other German train station. They include the murder of an eight-year-old boy on 29 July.
