The TCS were just doing some testing at RAF Marham when this single F-35B cleared for take off whacked on the reheat. It was looking like a local standard takeoff when the reheat came back on and whoooshhh straight up!
This is the first time the channel has ever seen an F-35B unrestricted climb before. It is a little rare as the F-35B is a STOVL (Short Take Off & Vertical Landing) so a Short Take Off would normally be requested.
Why do they do Unrestricted climbs/PTOs/Quick climbs
There are many reasons such as clearing airspace barriers, short runways, to burn fuel before air-to-air refuelling or just to get to a destination quicker. But these are just a few reasons, one also could be to impress the Ted Coningsby Squadron, ooh yeah!
