Margielyn Didal from the Philippines has ridden from poverty to sudden fame after winning gold medals in street skateboarding at the 2018 Asian Games and 2019 Southeast Asian Games. Now the 20-year-old has set her sights on qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, training overseas at skateparks in Los Angeles, Rio and Hong Kong. Named by Time Magazine as one of the world’s most influential teens of 2018, Didal dreams of building a skateboarding park and coaching clinic to help underprivileged children in her homeland.
