" La Vedova allegra " - tilolo originale "Die lustige Witwe" - è un'operetta in tre atti di Franz Lehár, tratta dalla "pièce" teatrale (1861) del drammaturgo francese Henri Meilhac (1831-1897) "L' Attaché d' Ambassade", su libretto di Victor Léon (1858-1940) e Leo Stein (1861-1921).
L'operetta ebbe il suo esordio il 30 dicembre 1905 al "Theater an der Wien" di Vienna con un successo trionfale.
" La Vedova Allegra " è senz'altro in assoluto l'operetta più celebre ed è stabilmente inserita nei repertori dei maggiori teatri del mondo.

§§§§§ Siamo a Parigi, dove risiede Hanna Glawary, una ricca vedova che ha ereditato un ingente patrimonio da suo marito, banchiere di corte del piccolo stato del Pontevedro.
Il sovrano pontevedrino è seriamente preoccupato: un eventuale matrimonio di Hanna con uno strainiero provocherebbe la fuoriuscita dei milioni dalle casse del piccolo stato e la sua conseguente bancarotta.
Che fare? Il sovrano, quindi, incarica l'ambasciatore del Pontevedro a Parigi, il Barone Zeta, affinchè trovi un possibile marito pontevedrino per la ricca vedova.
Il Barone Zeta ed il suo cancelliere Njegus si mettono subito all'opera ed individuano nel Conte Danilo Danilowich la probabile soluzione del problema.
Il Conte Danilo, in passato aveva avuto una storia d'amore con Hanna Glawary, purtroppo interrotta su pressione della famiglia per le umili origini di lei.
L'occasione si presenta per il compleanno del sovrano del Pontevedro.
All'ambasciata parigina viene organizzata una festa dove il Barone Zeta e Njegus cercano di convincere Danilo a sposare Hanna.
Hanna ama ancora Danilo, ma non vuole darlo a vedere, anzi, cerca di ingelosirlo.
Ma come in ogni operetta il lieto fine, dopo vicissitudini e vari equivoci, arriva e tra Hanna e Danilo si riaccende la fiamma dell'amore che porterà i due al matrimonio ed al conseguente salvataggio delle casse statali.

"The Merry Widow" - original "Die lustige Witwe" - is an operetta in three acts by Franz Lehár, taken from the theatrical "pièce" (1861) of the French playwright Henri Meilhac (1831-1897) "L 'Attaché d' Ambassade ", with libretto by Victor Léon (1858-1940) and Leo Stein (1861-1921).

§§§§§ We are in Paris, where Hanna Glawary resides, a rich widow who inherited a large fortune from her husband, a court banker in the small state of Pontevedro.
The Pontevedrino sovereign is seriously worried: a possible marriage of Hanna with a foreigner would cause the millions of dollars to go out of the coffers of the small state and its consequent bankruptcy.
What to do? The sovereign, therefore, instructs the ambassador of Pontevedro in Paris, Baron Zeta, to make a possible Pontevedrino husband for the rich widow.
Baron Zeta with his chancellor Njegus immediately set to work and identify the probable solution to the problem in Count Danilo Danilowich.
Count Danilo, in the past had a love affair with Hanna Glawary, unfortunately interrupted by pressure from the family due to her humble origins.
The occasion presents itself for the birthday of the sovereign of Pontevedro.
A party is organized at the Parisian embassy where Baron Zeta and Njegus try to persuade Danilo to marry Hanna.
Hanna still loves Danilo, but she doesn't want to show him, on the contrary, she tries to make him jealous.
But as in every operetta the happy ending, after vicissitudes and various misunderstandings, arrives and between Hanna and Danilo the flame of love is rekindled that will lead two to marriage and the consequent rescue of the state coffers.
