With the wall plates for the new roof ready, I moved onto making the roof trusses. They are made from hand hewn beams, 14x14cm. The rafters are 5m (16 ft) long. They connect at the top with a simple double lap joint. The collar (horizontal beam) is connected to the rafters via a dovetail join, which is much stronger than a simple lap joint would be. All the joints are than reinforced with oak pegs. The whole truss holds together tightly, without using any nails or screws, and also can be taken apart quickly, without damaging the beams.
Eight of these roof trusses will be made, to form the basic structure for the new roof, together with the wall plates from the previous video.
