Nicknamed the Tunnel of Fear and the Tunnel of Death by locals, the Anzob Tunnel in Tajikistan is rumored to be the most dangerous tunnel in the world. Lacking proper lighting and ventilation, breathing is difficult and painful due to the thick mixture of exhaust gases. Built in 2015, the tunnel stretches over 5 km (3.13 mi) and is located at an elevation of 2,700 meters above sea level. It takes approximately 10 minutes to drive through the tunnel, which was built as an alternative to the treacherous Anzob Pass, which becomes inaccessible during the winter months.
