STORYLINE:
Right-wing populist leader Riikka Purra voted in Kirkkonummi, Finland, on Sunday, with three parties are expected to be in a tight race as Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s Social Democrats fights to secure a second term running the government.
Purra has stressed that the her 'The Finns' party would focus on shaping Finland's migration, climate, criminal and energy policies if the populist party become a partner in the next government.
In an interview after voting Purra admitted that there would have to be compromise, due to Finland having a coalition government.
"Well, of course we are going to defend our our goals and our values. But there is only a coalition government possible in Finland. So it's always a compromise. And we clearly understand this."
She also said she backed Finland's decision to join NATO.
"I very happy that the NATO membership is going this nicely at the moment."
Finland is expected to be welcomed into NATO this week.
Over 2,400 candidates from 22 parties were vying for the 200 seats in the Nordic country's parliament, the Eduskunta.
