In this video, I am breaking in my new skimboard. It is an Exile Custom Signature Pro skimboard. I am 49 years old and young at heart. I have really enjoyed trying to learn to skimboard for the first time in the last year or so. I took a break in the winter and spring, but picked it up again this summer. I want to give a shout out to my wife and my daughter who gave me this skimboard for my birthday.
In this video, I am just breaking the board on one of my first sessions on this new skimboard. I am trying to get used to the feel of stepping onto the board. I am trying to feel the edges with both right turns and left turns. I am also trying to experiment with timing on when I start to run, to hit the waves as they approach. I am also trying to increase my speed as I take off.
It is an upgrade to my old Slapfish skimboard, which was a good one too. I believe this is the top of the line skimboard at Exile, the GOAT construction. This board has three sheets of carbon fiber, fused together with epoxy and fiberglass. It is stiff and strong and I hope this board will last a long long time. It is a few inches longer than my old skimboard too. It felt smooth, fast, light and strong. It felt faster and easier to turn than my other skimboard. I can’t wait to work on skimboarding the next few weeks to work on a few skills I have been practicing.
When I opened this skimboard out of the box, I had to attach the traction pads. I sanded down the top of the board to remove some of the finishing wax, and I then used painters tape to mark the center of the board and then used painters tape again to mark where I wanted the traction pads located. I put the rear traction pad as far back as I could.
Skimboarding is great, I bring my skimboard whenever we go out to the beach. I can also skim at a nearby beach whenever I want to, whether the waves are high or not. It’s a lot of fun! I have been learning to skimboard for about a year and it is a great complement to surfing which I have also been learning to do this past year.
I hope you liked this video. If you did, please click like, comment or subscribe on Youtube. And if you skimboard and have any tips for me on how to improve my skimboarding, I would love to hear from you.
