Parasitic wasps lay eggs on or under the skin of many types of caterpillars. The larvae that hatch grow inside the caterpillar, feeding on it. Once the larvae have matured they burrow out and spin cocoons that are attached to the caterpillar. Eventually adult wasps emerge from the cocoons. None of this is fun for the caterpillar.
