United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Negative Impact of Sanctions, Alena Douhan, has begun a 10-day fact-finding mission in Zimbabwe.
The purpose of the trip is to determine the impact economic sanctions as had on the Southern African nation. Today, she met with government officials including President Emmerson Mnangagwa and national ministers.
During her visit, she's expected to engage with business, opposition parties and civil society. Zimbabwe has faced ongoing sanctions for nearly two decades, which has worsened the country's economic output. Douhan is expected to present her final report to the UN Human Rights Council next year.
