No one has owned the story of the St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese sex scandal like Minnesota Public Radio's Madeleine Baran. For the last year, church canon lawyer turned whistleblower, Jennifer Haselberger, has been Baran's guide through the cover-up. Baran has uncovered hundreds of thousands of smoking gun documents, leading to new allegations and more victims. "This was not a normal thing for someone to do in the church hierarchy," Baran says of Haselberger.
The St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese claims many of the allegations are old news. "They've always said that," Baran said. "What we've seen is there's a cycle. A problem is exposed, there's a pledge to do better, and it goes on and on."
Baran's year long reporting culminated in an hour long documentary this week, "Betrayed By Silence," in which she meticulously documents a cover-up perpetrated by three Archbishops.
